How PLA Independent works

Students follow a self-paced learning plan, submit selected assignments for teacher feedback and use that feedback to take the next step. Families receive a written progress summary every study week.

Teacher review in PLA Independent

PLA Online School’s PLA Independent plan covers 36 study weeks of self-paced learning with written feedback on selected assignments. Daily live classes and one-to-one tutoring are outside this offer.

Follow the subject plan

Begin with orientation, the learning plan and digital resources for the agreed subjects. Organize lessons and practice around a family routine, with adult guidance appropriate to the child’s stage.

Submit selected work

The weekly allowance is 2 selected submissions in Kindergarten, 3 in Elementary, 3 in Middle School and 4 in High School. These totals cover all subjects together, rather than each course separately.

Use the feedback

Teacher comments arrive within 2 business days during the study calendar. One revision per selected submission is included. A weekly written family summary brings completed work and next steps together.

The family’s part in a study week

A parent or learning adult guides Kindergarten activities and submits work. Elementary learners need support with routines, materials and reading practice. Older students take more responsibility while parents keep the plan and progress in view.

Make room for reading, handwriting, creative work, movement and hands-on practice alongside digital resources. A computer, Internet access, printing and hands-on supplies are family costs.

If you plan to travel, confirm the study calendar and the requirements of your education arrangement first. Self-paced learning does not remove residency, attendance or in-person requirements that may apply.

Technology for PLA Independent

PLA Online School’s PLA Independent plan uses digital learning resources and submission of selected work for written feedback. Families provide a computer, Internet access, printing and hands-on materials. The cost depends on the family’s existing setup and the agreed subjects.

Confirm the setup before buying

  • Which devices, operating systems, browsers and applications support the proposed learning plan?
  • Which file formats will your child need to open, create and submit, and how will you find the feedback?
  • Can your family test a representative lesson and submission on its current device and connection?
  • Which materials should be prepared, and whom should an adult contact when access fails?

Ask PLA for the current details for your child’s plan before purchasing equipment. These questions do not establish a minimum connection speed or a supported device, browser or software version.
